Vicky & James’ Two-Day Wedding at Sudeley Castle, Cotswolds

A Two-Day Celebration
Vicky and James’ wedding was a proper two-day celebration, and I loved being there for both.
On Friday, they had a civil ceremony at Sudeley Castle, then headed to a nearby village venue for drinks and canapés. It was a relaxed start to the weekend, with friends and family enjoying the castle grounds and soaking up the atmosphere.
Then on Saturday, they had a bigger wedding with a family friend as celebrant in the castle’s family chapel. Two very different days meant lots of variety — Vicky wore a smart trouser suit on Friday and a gown on Saturday — and plenty of fun moments with guests.
It was brilliant to photograph both days and capture all the little moments that made each one feel completely different.
Sudeley Castle – A Stunning Cotswolds Venue
Sudeley Castle is one of those venues that has it all. The history, the architecture, the gardens — it’s just brilliant for wedding photography.
The castle grounds and gardens are perfect for shots in all sorts of weather, with beautiful spots for portraits, family photos, and candid moments. And the castle itself has so much character, from the main halls to the family chapel — every corner makes for a great backdrop.
Whether you’re after a small, intimate ceremony or a bigger weekend wedding like Vicky and James, the venue works really well.
Friday: Civil Ceremony and Drinks
Friday was all about keeping it simple and relaxed. The civil ceremony in the Family Chapel at the castle was a lovely way to kick things off, with a few close friends and family around.
Vicky’s trouser suit looked fantastic — really suited the relaxed vibe of the day — and the castle gardens gave us loads of opportunities for natural, outdoor shots. After the ceremony, everyone went to a local village venue for drinks and canapés, giving the weekend a proper celebratory start without feeling rushed.
Saturday: Church Ceremony
Saturday was the bigger day, with more guests and a ceremony in the castle’s beautiful church led by a family friend celebrant.
Vicky changed into a beautiful gown, giving a completely different look from Friday, and the chapel itself looked amazing. The combination of the historic building, the lighting, and the personal touches made it a brilliant setting for photography — from the ceremony to group shots and relaxed portraits afterward.
We also made the most of the castle gardens for some fun, informal shots with guests — there’s always something to explore, climb over, or just pose against for natural images.
Why Sudeley Castle Works in Any Season
One of the best things about Sudeley Castle is how well it works no matter what time of year you get married.
Spring & Summer: The gardens are bursting with colour, and there’s loads of room for outdoor ceremonies and drinks.
Autumn: Leaves, light, and golden hours make it perfect for romantic, natural photography.
Winter: Even in the colder months, the castle interiors are warm and atmospheric — candlelight, wood panelling, and historic halls give you a timeless feel.
No matter the season, there’s always somewhere amazing to photograph — and it’s great for couples who want a mix of indoor and outdoor shots.
Final Thoughts
Vicky and James’ two-day wedding at Sudeley Castle was brilliant to be part of — full of laughs, personality, and gorgeous locations. From the Friday civil ceremony to the Saturday chapel celebration, every moment had its own vibe, and the castle provided a perfect backdrop for both.
